Thoughts on the Atlassian App Week 2018 (Portland)

Events · June 17, 2018

I’ve been in Portland (Oregon) this week to attend the Atlassian App Week, representing New Relic. It’s been a great opportunity to catch up with some colleagues from the industry and get insights in person about the next improvements Atlassian is going to make to their products, specifically their APIs.

I have to confess I’ve never been a fan of Atlassian APIs, however, what’s coming next is really exciting and is always a pleasure to see real investment in APIs improvement. Especially these ones, because they drive amazing products. I still would like to see more OpenAPI presence. This would help a lot getting started (wink wink). However, their documentation is getting better and the new design looks really beautiful (this is a huge plus for me). Atlassian has gotten an amazing team, big props for the awesome work.

Stride looks very promising, and for sure will be a big competitor of Slack, mostly for enterprise companies. I still need to get my hands dirty with its API but would like to see an event-driven API, documented with AsyncAPI if possible. Similar to what Slack is doing. It’d be great now that they’re just starting.

Thanks to New Relic for bringing me this opportunity!
